The variable a is controlled by the slider with a range from -5 to 5 and changes in integer steps. The slider style is "minimised". By using the variable a when graphing, you can manipulate a function as required by clicking the up and down arrows.
To change the slider settings use the context menu. i.e move the cursor over the slider and right-click or press ctrl-menu.
